Care for Richmond and Chesterfield patients at our North Chesterfield office, with psychiatric and family nurse practitioner services in one practice. General care begins at age 5; SPRAVATO is for eligible adults only.

Looking for a psychiatrist in Richmond, VA?

Choosing care starts with understanding who will provide it and what services are available.

K. Johns Medical provides psychiatric evaluation and medication management through Dr. Kimone Johns, DNP, PMHNP-BC, FNP-BC, APRN, a dual board-certified Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner and Family Nurse Practitioner. Dr. Johns is a nurse practitioner, not a physician psychiatrist; her doctoral credential is a Doctor of Nursing Practice.

If you are searching for a “psychiatrist Richmond VA” or psychiatric care in Chesterfield, our practice offers an option for nurse practitioner-led care. If you specifically need a physician psychiatrist or a service outside our scope, tell the office when requesting care so the appropriate next step can be discussed.

Three ways we can support your care

Recommendations follow a clinical assessment—not a screening score or an online request alone.

SPRAVATO® consultations

Adults with depression that has not responded adequately to prior treatment can request an evaluation to discuss whether supervised esketamine nasal spray may be appropriate. The assessment includes treatment history, medications and safety considerations.

Treatment is administered in a certified healthcare setting, not at home. Monitoring lasts at least two hours after administration, with discharge determined clinically. Arrange transportation home; do not drive until the next day after a restful sleep.

ADHD evaluation & treatment

Evaluation is available for children age 5 and older, adolescents and adults. We review attention, organization, impulsivity, daily functioning and developmental history, alongside medical, sleep and mental health factors that can affect concentration.

Questionnaires can support the assessment but do not establish a diagnosis. Treatment and medication decisions are individualized; a prescription is not guaranteed.

Primary care, age 5 and older

Request preventive care, annual physicals, sick visits or ongoing care for chronic medical conditions. Primary and psychiatric care within the same practice allow physical and mental health concerns to be considered together.

Recommended vaccines are offered for patients age 5 and older. Contact the office about the specific vaccine you need and preparation for your visit.

Before you request a visit

Will my insurance cover care?

Participation and benefits vary by provider, service and plan. SPRAVATO may require benefits verification and prior authorization; approval and out-of-pocket costs cannot be promised. Review insurance and self-pay information and call the office with coverage questions.

How do I request an appointment?

Use the website’s appointment request form for primary care or psychiatric evaluation. For SPRAVATO, use the dedicated consultation form. The office will contact you to arrange or confirm a consultation; submitting a form does not book treatment or establish eligibility.

What should I prepare?

Have your insurance card, current medication list and relevant treatment history available for your visit. Do not email medical records or send clinical details through ordinary email. Records can be faxed to 757-530-8350, or submitted by secure means arranged with the office.
